Vision

Thorndon Parish Council, which has lead responsibility for the Neighbourhood Development Plan began discussion on the potential and validity of creating the Plan in November 2015. After these initial discussions the Parish Council decided to develop a Plan. To improve understanding of the process a member of the planning  management team of the district council, Mr. Nick Ward, was invited to attend the Parish Council to deliver a presentation on the types and merit of the various types of plan available. The details of the presentation were publicised in the May 2016 issue of the ‘Village Life Magazine’. Many members of the community attended this presentation and it was clear that there was an appetite for the development of a Plan – the presentation can be viewed here.

The vision of the plan is:

“Thorndon Parish will strive to celebrate its proud heritage whilst keeping the village a thriving rural community in a living, working countryside which is dependent on retaining our local services and community facilities such as schools, local shops, public houses and places of worship. Affordable and accessible rural housing is essential to ensure viable use of these local facilities. We will welcome appropriate housing development to ensure that our community continues to thrive.”

In October 2017, Thorndon Parish Council applied to Mid Suffolk District Council to designate the whole of the Thorndon Parish as a Neighbourhood Area for preparing a Neighbourhood Plan. These links show:
